We're All In This Together

Can’t believe it. Love these babies more and more every day. Oh, and Oliver rolled from his tummy to his back today, followed immediately by crying.

We took our first full family outing (somewhere other than the pediatrician’s office and the time I took the babies to meet the Switch gang) to Cam & Field’s second birthday party, dubbed Cam & Field Day (2). We got to design the invitations for these twins’ party last year and Justin upgraded their party website (we’re so 21st century) for this year’s bash. Its crazy seeing how fast these two have grown and knowing it will feel even faster with our three. The party was at a really great park at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. If we lived closer we would definitely take the kids here to play. It was awesome!

After a few minutes of trying to figure out the logistics of getting a picture with all three of them (it felt impossible to be holding one and attempt to pick up a second from their carseat safely) we settled on the above option. We got to use our awesome new triple decker stroller that a fellow triplet family generously handed down to us (thanks, Lindsay!). The babies behaved really well despite it being a pretty hot and muggy day.

Zoey woke up soon after we got there and loved staring up at the trees. When she heard planes fly over (the park isn’t far from Love Field) she looked for them in the sky. Ollie slept most of the time except when he got hungry and Quinn didn’t open her eyes once the entire time we were out of the house.

Justin and I will have to learn to stand less awkwardly at the helm of the super stroller.

I went out with Oliver yesterday and bought hats for them but it ended up being overcast all day so they didn’t wear them. Here’s a picture of Oliver trying them on in the store though (yes, he tried one on for his sisters, what a nice brother).

Even though its been a few months since I’ve been a working lady (this was the last big thing I worked on for a year before leaving) its still strange to me to think that I won’t be designing every day for a long time. Several of my favorite design blogs (here and here) are posting pictures from the National Stationery Show and its bittersweet for me to look at all of the wonderful work being produced. On one hand its inspiring, but on the other its a big reminder that I don’t have time to do this thing that I love and I’m not sure when I’ll get to again. Right now my brain just isn’t functioning highly enough to produce anything, even if I could carve out 30 minutes or an hour somewhere in my day to try. Justin and I have been brainstorming an appropriately epic birth announcement, as well as a yet-to-be-named side project that we’ve been talking about for a couple of years that would include screenprinted wares for little ones (and medium ones). I’ve been collecting inspiration for that lately on Pinterest if you’d like to take a look.

Speaking of Pinterest…are you addicted yet? Its where I collect my favorite images and inspirations for everything from color palettes to kid stuff to interior design and personal style. If you don’t already have an account and you enjoy using your eyeballs then I highly recommend checking it out.

I’m super thankful I get to stay home with my babies for awhile (not sure how long I’ll be able to, but hopefully a couple of years), but I think having this time off is actually fueling my creative energy. Its like I’m building up stores that will be ready to burst by the time I can use them again. My favorite non-mom related thing to do these days is head out to a coffee shop with Justin for 30 minutes while one of our parents watches the babies. We talk about these projects and ideas and let our ambitions run wild and I get a little familiar taste of the enthusiasm I had in college. I love that he and I share this and can’t imagine being married to a non-designer. Its such a part of who we are.
