We're All In This Together

October 16 | 14 weeks
We found out really early on (like, as soon as we possibly could) that I was pregnant. We were so excited and thankful because we really wanted to start our family and ok, I’ll admit, I had a touch of the “baby crazy” for several months. So of course once we found out that there really was a little baby in my belly we wanted to start telling our close friends and family. We decided to wait a few weeks and go to my first prenatal appointment before sharing the news. It was so tough to see our parents especially and not say anything! We even had a scare one night when we forgot Justin’s parents were stopping by after work and on our way home I remembered that the positive pregnancy test was still sitting on the bathroom counter. They had gotten to the house 15 minutes before us and gone in so we just crossed our fingers that no one would have to use the bathroom. Thank goodness, we kept our secret that night!
Of course, we had our own little surprise at my first doctor’s visit. She had just finished up the first part of my exam and all of a sudden I saw an image on the ultrasound screen out of the corner of my eye. As I turned to look at Justin and point out that the picture was up on the screen, I remember vaguely thinking “Hrm, it looked like there were two dark spots up there, I wonder what that is.” And just then Dr. Hagood kind of chuckles and says “Well, I don’t know if you’re going to believe this…there are two!”
A lot of people have asked us if we were shocked or scared and some people upon hearing our news say “yikes!” themselves, but truly, the second we realized there were two babies, it was like that’s how it was always going to be. I can’t really explain it. Of course we were surprised, I mean, who expects twins with a natural pregnancy when there is no genetic indication whatsoever that you have the chance of having twins? But our first reaction was to smile and laugh and I remember repeating “God has an interesting sense of humor” several times. We feel so humbled that God would choose to give us two babies to love and raise. We know its going to be an incredible challenge, but we’re up for it. Go big or go home, we say!
So, after almost a month of keeping the secret to ourselves, we finally had the confirmation of the first doctor’s appointment and a beautiful sonogram picture in our hands. Telling people you’re expecting a baby is so much fun, and believe me, its double the fun to tell them its twins! Its been such a blessing seeing how much love people already have for our sweet little babies that aren’t even out in the world yet. At the risk of giving our secret away, we took video of our family’s reactions to the news, and it was so worth it! We were a little sneaky with the way we shared the news by covering up one of the babies with a talk bubble on one side of the card and revealing both babies on the back of the card. I love surprises!

Welcome to our new family blog!

In Austin at Hotel San Jose for our 2nd anniversary last June.

...and the little ones, at 7.5 weeks.
Its taken me awhile to get going here because I keep thinking I need to have some incredibly insightful/sentimental thoughts about being pregnant and the way our family will grow and change with these two babies, and though I have had lots of those thoughts, I’m not so good at putting them into words. The emotional, bare-my-soul posts will have to come some other time when I’ve just finished a really good book or listened to some beautiful music or watched the latest episode of Teen Mom. For now, this will get us going. Justin and I will both be posting about a handful of different things, including family, pregnancy, design, music, style and whatever else our little hearts desire. We basically just want a place to house our thoughts as we begin this journey of adding two new people to our lives. We hope that friends and family enjoy keeping up with us this way, and hope to make some new friends along the way. Don’t hesitate to say hello or share your thoughts in the comments, we’d love to hear from you!
Much love,
Justin and Christina
